TODAY OUR SPECIALS ARE MUFFINS, CUPCAKES, AND… MARRIAGE COUNSELING?

Last week at the Cake Flour Bakery we received an order, as we often do, for a specialty cake.  But this was for a super-decadent multi-layer chocolate caramel bourbon cake to celebrate a spouse’s major birthday milestone.  The cake was meant to commemorate a type of cake the couple had shared at their favorite restaurant in the early days of their relationship, when they had first started dating.  The cake was made and picked up as usual, but the next day we received a phone call.  The birthday dinner had gone off without a hitch.  We were told that, thanks to the cake, “You saved my marriage!” 

Of course our customer had meant it as a joke, but it got us thinking about a few things--about the power of good food to bring people together and to stir up memories.  Does the smell of chocolate chip cookies remind you of your grandmother?  Do you and your friends always gather over cupcakes?  Do fresh muffins taste like home?  The memories can be just as delicious as the food itself!
