Happy Halloween from Cake Flour Bakery!

A little bit of Halloween "Did you know?"

Did you know that the roots of this Friday’s celebration reach all the way back to ancient Celtic times?  It began over 2,000 years ago as Samhain, a day when the spirits of the dead were believed to roam.  The Celts thought it would be a good idea to dress up as if they were ghosts themselves (apparently spirits are easily tricked!) and put delicious food and wine outside their doors the keep the spirits at bay.  These days we use delicious treats to keep neighborhood children at bay!  Halloween Trick or Treating as we know was truly in the 1950s, as evidenced by the Peanuts comic strip trick-or-treating gang.  To learn more about how Halloween went from Celts to Charlie Brown, watch this short video at History.com: http://www.history.com/topics/halloween/history-of-trick-or-treating.

Cake Flour is celebrating Halloween with an Instagram photo contest!  Just follow us @cakeflour, take a family-friendly Halloween photo featuring our goodies, and post it to Instagram with the hashtag #CakeFlourHalloween!  All entries will be judged on October 31, and the winner will receive a free 9” cake ($45 value)!
